A spectacular collection of paintings by local artist, Sinead Hehir went on show last Friday night at the Joan Clancy Gallery in Ring.
There was a huge attendance to see the work of this popular and talented young local artist, which is known by her distinctive style, use of colours and disciplined brushwork.
The official opening was performed by Orla Flynn, the Acting Head CIT Crawford College of Art & Design who had very positive things to say about Sinead and her work.
Introducing her guests, Joan Clancy said that the colour and light in Sineadís work would compensate for the dull and misty evening outside, sentiments with which the audience enthusiastically agreed. She said she was honoured to exhibit Sineadís work which was not the first time it was displayed in her gallery and she thanked her daughter Blawnin for hanging the collection so
Acting Head of CIT Crawford College of Art & Design, Orla Flynn said it was a pleasure to formally open Sineadís first solo exhibition.
"Sinead has always been a high achiever," she said, "and it is a testament to her work and dedication that so many of her colleagues and College staff have remembered her and her work and are here this evening.
"Sineadís work has made a great impression since she qualified in 2009," she continued, "and she has continued to develop her talent and style since then."
She said that Sinead had graduated from CIT Crawford College of Art & Design Cork, with a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art 2009, garnering the CIT and OPW Purchase Prize Awards respectively, and completed her H.Dip with First Class Honours in 2010 gaining the Marshall Hutson Award for Best Art Education Student. She had also achieved the highest result in the year, and also Student of the Year by CIT.
She congratulated Joan on keeping her gallery open and available to established and up and coming artists, particularly as there is no longer any private gallery in Cork City.
"A Different View" captures the atmosphere and exuberance of rural dramatic locations around Dungarvan in County Waterford. An outstanding award-winning young artist, Sinťad Hehirís work already forms part of important private and civic collections and her talent is synonymous with the high quality for which Joan Clancy Gallery is renowned.
